Description

Isolate Haemophilus spp. from clinical specimens with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Columbia Agar with Chocolated Horse Blood and Bacitracin. Chocolated horse blood is added to the general purpose Columbia Agar Base to supply the required nutrients for the growth of Haemophilus. Bacitracin is added as a selective agent to aid isolation of Haemophilus influenzae and overcome overgrowth of competing flora from the respiratory tract.

Use Columbia Agar with Chocolated Horse Blood and Bacitracin for the isolation of Haemophilus spp. from clinical specimens.

  • Supports the growth of Haemophilus with chocolated blood providing the nutritional requirements.
  • Improved isolation of Haemophilus influenzae due to bacitracin reducing competing respiratory flora.
  • Ready-to-use convenience of prepared media.

It has been shown that isolation rates are not affected by the addition of bacitracin; however the quantity of H. influenzae growth increased due to reduced competing flora1.
