Description
Defined Keratinocyte-SFM is a serum-free medium optimized for the isolation and expansion of human keratinocytes without the need for bovine pituitary extract (BPE) supplementation or the use of fibroblast feeder layers (1,2). The growth-promoting activity of BPE has been replaced by the inclusion of growth promoting agents which enhance consistent product performance. These growth-promoting agents also maintain cell morphology, physiological markers, and growth. The medium is formulated to inhibit fibroblast proliferation and has a low calcium concentration (<0.1 mM) allowing for the isolation and culture of highly enriched populations of undifferentiated keratinocytes.

A Defined Keratinocyte-SFM Master File has been submitted to the FDA. Permission to cross-reference the Master File may be obtained by contacting Technical Services or your local Sales Representative. Defined Keratinocyte-SFM consists of a basal liquid medium and frozen supplement which is added at the time of use. The fully supplemented medium has a shelf-life of 10 weeks under normal use conditions. Product performance is confirmed by evaluation of human primary keratinocyte growth.
