Description
Thermo Scientific™ Pierce Avidin Agarose is high-quality beaded agarose resin for biotin affinity procedures.
Additional Information and Online Ordering
This avidin affinity resin is crosslinked beaded agarose onto which purified avidin has been covalently immobilized. The biotin-binding agarose beads are available as pre-packed columns or resin slurry. The resin is designed for use in a variety of applications for the affinity purification of biotinylated macromolecules. Although streptavidin provides superior performance generally, avidin is more effective in certain situations.Avidin is a tetrameric glycoprotein rich in tryptophan that is present in chicken egg white and the tissues of birds, and avidin is highly resistant to denaturation by acids or proteolytic enzymes. Avidin Agarose Resin consists of purified avidin that has been immobilized to crosslinked 6% beaded agarose. The resulting affinity support is leak-resistant, stable at pH from 2 to 11, and ideal for gravity-flow and low-speed centrifugation applications.
Highlights:
- Immobilized ligand is purified avidin from chicken egg whites
- Support is crosslinked 6% beaded agarose resin (agarose beads)
- Supplied as a stable aqueous slurry or pre-packed columns
- Binds free biotin and biotinylated molecules with high affinity
Recommended for:
Binding biotinylated anti-transferrin from serum; Binding biotinyl peptides and elution with an SDS/urea solution; Hybridization of biotinylated RNA to its complementary DNA and binding to immobilized avidin, with subsequent elution of the single-stranded DNA; Purification of double-stranded DNA
